How to Transition from Summer to Fall

There is almost nothing I love more than fall clothes and fall weather. Here in York, it stays fairly warm through September and even October. So while I can't wait to break out my boots, flannels, and layering pieces, realistically I can't really wear those for a while yet. At least, not without being dressed unseasonably warm.

So, what's a girl to do?

In an effort to feel like I'm dressing for fall, I try to incorporate more "fall" hues even while I'm still donning my summer shorts & styles. Here are a few of my current favorite pieces that will help extend the life of your summer clothes. Ease your way into fall with the help of pairing a few richer-toned styles that feel a little more 'fall' but are still wearable through the end of summer heat.

MY CURRENT FAVORITE STYLES TO TRANSITION FROM SUMMER TO FALL

1. A Cropped, Floral Sweater

This cropped floral knit sweater is the perfect style to add to your wardrobe. You can easily wear it year-round, whether it be as loungewear or everyday wear.

The cropped length makes it more "summer"-appropriate while the darker charcoal hue makes it easy to transition into fall.

This cropped floral knit sweater is the perfect style to add to your wardrobe. You can easily wear it year-round, whether it be as loungewear or everyday wear.

Wear it through the end of summer with your favorite shorts, like the natural linen pair shown here, and then style with your favorite denim as the temps cool down.

2. Sleeveless Sweater Top

Nothing will help you transition from summer to fall quite like a sleeveless sweater top! With a chunkier knit, this top looks fall-ready but without being overly warm.

These trending knit tops look great with your summer shorts as well as fall denim. They can even be layered throughout the winter over a long sleeve top or turtleneck for additional wear-time.

Truly multi-seasonal, this midi dress can be worn year-round. Making it perfect for the summer to fall transition!

With elbow-length puffed sleeves to add shape, this dress has a fully functional button-front.Making it a great option for new moms or for those who want additional styling options, like wearing it open like a duster over a tank & jeans.

The collared neckline elevates the look, also making it suitable for a more professional setting, like the office or for teaching.

Wear with everything from strappy heels to wedges to sneakers to boots/booties!

5. Sleeveless Knit Sweater Vest

Similar to the sleeveless knit top, tis sweater vest can also easily help you transition from summer to fall styling.

Lightweight enough for daily summer wear, this sweater vest is a trans-seasonal staple. In a neutral hue that goes with anything, wear this top with your favorites shorts or skirts all summer long.

To transition from summer to fall, style with trendy chocolate brown denim (like the pair shown here!), with your favorite satin midi skirt, or layer this sweater vest over a turtleneck to style well into the winter season.

OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER FOR STYLES THAT TRANSITION FROM SUMMER TO FALL

TEXTURE/FABRIC STYLE

In addition to colors, other factors that make your styles more "summer" or "fall" include the type and thickness of the fabric. Did you find a hot pink, chunky knit sweater that you absolute love? That can easily transition from summer to fall because of the type of fabric. Don't limit yourself to certain colors just because they feel more like fall, but that's certainly an easy place to begin your summer to fall transition if you aren't sure where to start.

One last thing...When shopping for styles to transition from summer to fall, don't be afraid to add colors. While I opted for a lot of neutrals here, remember: any color can be worn for any season!
