Ready for one of my secrets on how to instantly look put-together? Monochromatic outfits.
Wander with me for a moment here, think of the major popularity of two-piece sets right now in everyday fashion. There's a reason they're so popular, they typically involve the same color top and bottom, helping you instantly look like you have an outfit that "goes together."
That same theory applies when you think of monochromatic outfits! While the top and bottom don't need to match exactly, as long as they're in the same color family, you'll achieve that same concept of having a "set."
And honestly, I think creating your own "set" has a lot more value and interest than any matching set you can buy. In particular, when creating your monochromatic outfit, you can combine two items of the same color. but mix the textures. This adds even more dimension and visual interest to your outfit, making you instantly look elegant and put-together! Who doesn't want that?
So let's get to the good part.
Here are a few of my current favorite monochromatic outfits for fall 2024!
1. Brown Monochromatic Outfit
The hottest color of the season, chocolate brown, can easily be styled with any other shade of brown.
Here I combined a sleeveless turtleneck ribbed-knit top with brown denim. For a bit of fun, I added an embroidered belt and tiny woven tote.
You could easily add a bag of any color to this look and layer any kind of jacket over this top.
2. Cream Monochromatic Outfit
ELEGANT! CHIC! Omg I'm actually obsessed with this combination. This is cream but would of course apply to white or ivory.
All last fall and winter I would style cream on cream and everywhere I went, I received compliments. It just look so stylish! And even better, it was so simple.
For this look I paired my favorite cream leather pants with a sleeveless turtleneck half zip. You can easily layer another top under this as the weather gets colder, I'd probably try a brown turtleneck to keep within those neutral tones but you could also do black for a higher contrast outfit.
3. Black Monochromatic Outfit
This is definitely the easiest look to achieve because I imagine most people have plenty of black styles in their wardrobe.
Denim, skirts, tops, sweaters. Mix and match whatever you have! You don't need to keep black shoes, unless you want to, and you can even use this as a fun opportunity to let your accessories shine.
Get the most out of your black monochromatic outfits by mixing all of the textures.
Here I styled a ribbed-knit tank with a satin mini skirt and a wool-blend shacket. The shacket has a delicate print throughout that adds even more dimension to the look.
4. Blue Monochromatic Outfit
Another easy look to achieve, because I'm willing to bet you have at least one pair of blue jeans that you love! Just throw on a cozy blue knit and you have an instant cozy look!
Of course, it doesn't have to be a blue knit, a simple blue tank would look stylish and then you could add a flannel or shacket for pop of color.
5. Green Monochromatic Outfit
Neutrals not your thing? Green is so popular right now so a green-on-green look should be quick & easy to throw together!
To create this monochromatic outfit, I styled a green satin skirt with a gorgeously textured green pullover knit. You can wear your sweaters long with your long skirts, or you could crop it by tucking it into your bra or a adding a belt.
Versatile and easy to put together, grab any two items from your wardrobe in the same color family and create your own 'set!'
Whether you opt for neutrals or styling colors, a monochromatic outfit is such a quick and easy way to achieve an elegant, classy look with no trouble on your part.
