A new month, a new holiday! The 4th of July is honestly one of my favorites. Cute, festive clothes, delicious BBQ’s, and summer is in full swing. We have a ton of cute new arrivals that are red, white, blue, and so you!

2. Seriously obsessing over this summery gingham print. Also the peplum is so cute! Love this one with white skinnies too.
3. This cream tank is casual and cool but the subtle touch of tassels to keeps it current. Wearing it with the black shorts gives it that extra edge it needs.
Fine & Fringey Tank $34

Cause a Ruffle Top $34
5. This print though….nothing says “summer” to me more than some blue & white, it feels so beachy. This print has a subtle vertical stripe thing going for it and the halter style is perfect for showing off your holiday weekend glow.

Hey there! I’m sure you have checked out our latest summer lookbook photos and if you haven’t, you’re totally missing out. However, today I would like to share with you a little bit about what goes into putting this project together (other than my heart & soul, literally)!
Creating a lookbook is so much fun but it’s also a ton of work. From selecting the collection to planning the shoot location, the amount of preparation is immense for a seemingly easy project such as this.
Prep work complete, shoot day rolls around faster and faster every season. It’s usually an all day event and I sleep like a baby when it’s over. The girls and I have a blast looking for the perfect photo ops.
Major props to these two cuties that I have had the pleasure of working with over the last year. For the perfect photos they’ve endured freezing cold temps (seriously 32 degrees), hours and hours on their feet (often in high heels, ouch), and less than desirable changing locations. But, they’ve managed the challenges like champs and with smiles on their faces to help me bring you our seasonal collections.
Once shoot day is over, I spend hours, literally hours, selecting my favorite pictures and making minor editing adjustments. I’m certainly no professional photographer so sometimes this is the longest step for me, but I always enjoy it. Here are just a handful of the “outtakes” from this last shoot. Hope you enjoy!
Memorial Day weekend is almost here and if that doesn’t mark the beginning of summer, I don’t know what does. Whether you have set plans or are still trying to figure out how you’ll spend this long weekend, here are a few outfit ideas perfect for anything from the beach to a backyard BBQ.
1. Champagne & Chambray Top and White Denim Shorts
This outfit combo is giving me major nautical vibes. Chambray is so classy and pairing it with white cut-offs keeps it casual.
2. Beach Breeze Dress
Just as a the name implies, this gauzy dress with crochet details feels like it belongs on the beach.
3. Coachella Bella Top and Ready to Roll & Stroll Shorts
OTS styles are here to stay! With a boho print and fingertip-grazing bell sleeves, it looks so cute with the high rise, frayed denim shorts.
4. Go with the Flow Tank & Beach, Please Shorts
The white tank and light colored shorts are essential for warm weather, so light and breezy!
5. Riviera Dreams Dress
Okay seriously, actually obsessed with this print. Also, the cinched waist and a-line skirt is flattering on so many body types. Plus pockets, no need to say more…
For Memorial Day and beyond, these looks are all warm weather approved. Which look is your favorite? Cheers to the beginning of summer!

I have always enjoyed accessorizing. A piece of jewelry transforms your look from “blah” to “ahhhh.” It takes a simple tee and turns it into an outfit. But this is also one of the biggest fashion dilemmas I’ve heard since the doors of the boutique have opened. And thus, this post is coming to life.
I’m a firm believer in the idea that fashion has no rules. Don’t let these ideas limit you but rather let them provide a quick guideline in your times of need.
The easiest explanation I can use for how I add a necklace to an outfit? Fill the space. Above you will see a few examples of some of the most common necklines and how I’ve defined “the space.”
What does this mean exactly? I think of the space as the skin exposed by the top (or dress). In the case of the crew neck example, where no skin below the neck is exposed, the space becomes the top.
Off the Shoulder
I love the look of layered necklaces with off the shoulder styles. Sure you could pick one or the other, but I think these two trends blend well together. Chokers look great with off the shoulder tops & dresses because they highlight your neck and décolletage. As well as a long necklace has a very slimming effect, which is perfect for a top that cuts a straight line across your shoulders.
As a neckline gets closer to the neck, the space becomes the shirt instead of the exposed skin. In particular, this is a solid top, so we can fill the entire shirt! That’s why I’ve selected a long necklace for this one. Again, it’s slimming and adds interest to an otherwise plain tee.
The space to fill for this example is the exposed skin around the neck. For a printed scoop neckline, I gravitate towards a short pendant. For a plain scoop neck top or dress, you could choose a long necklace (like the crew neckline above) or still fill the neckline space with a short necklace.
I would describe a detailed neckline top or dress as one with crossed straps or cutout details. This is an increasingly popular style. You could easily go without a necklace on these kinds of tops and opt of earrings instead. However, should you feel a necklace works best for you, I would go for one that doesn’t conflict with the top. In this particular example, a choker is perfect because it doesn’t cover any unique details.
Hopefully by the time you’re reading this example, you know what I’m about to say! The space is the V-shaped exposed skin. For a printed tank such as this, a short and delicate necklace is perfect for filling the space but still allowing the print to shine. Likewise, for a solid v-neck top you could try a larger, statement necklace to add interest.
Hopefully this post has been helpful in determining a quick & easy way to add necklaces to any outfit. Still wondering how to make it work? Let me know in the comments and together we’ll make your accessorizing dreams come true!
Spring has arrived and sometimes even the best of us get into a style rut. Have you ever found yourself browsing outfit ideas across social media? If so, this post is for you! While these spring outfit ideas may not be considering “groundbreaking,” they aren’t supposed to be! These are simply some ideas of outfits that were put together from the latest spring arrivals. My hope was to inspire your creativity and even help you think about how to incorporate items you already own into your spring wardrobe. Enjoy!
I’m actually obsessed with shorts and sweater combos. I’m not entirely sure why but I think it has to do with letting my legs feel “free” from jeans but the sweater stills keeps me comfy and cozy. This look is perfect for spring weather when it’s cooler in the morning and warm during the day.
Adventure Time Sweater//Ready to Roll & Stroll Shorts
The color lavender always reminds me of spring. Also, this top’s choker neckline with cutout is key this season. So those two combined make this a great spring outfit. Try it with cropped jeans for even more of a spring feel.
Lovely in Lilac Tee
Similar to the first outfit, this one features a cozy cardigan paired with a black tank. The light denim shorts really help make it feel less winter and more of a spring option. For a warmer day, ditch the cardi and just wear the black tank & shorts (black always makes you look bronzed!)
Like you a Latte Cardigan // Ready for Anything Tank // Beach, Please Shorts
A minty fresh tank gives this outfit it’s spring vibes. Paired with a cozy cardigan and my all time favorite black shorts. I love pairing neutrals with a pop of color and this outfit falls perfectly into that category.
Lazy Afternoons Cardigan // Keep it Fresh Tank // Living the Good Life Shorts
Last but not least, nautical vibes complete this spring ootd roundup. One of the top trends this season is stripes. These vertical pinstripes are slimming and the off the shoulder style of this top is flattering for anyone’s shoulders. This outfit makes me feel like the beach, what could be better than that?
Spring is officially here and we can feel the temperatures rising (finally!). A new season calls for a new outfit. In particular, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite spring dresses that would be perfect for Easter, a bridal shower, a bachelorette party, or really any event on your calendar for the upcoming months. Click the images below to see more about each dress!
What I love about this look: The silhouette of this dress! It features a tighter fit at the top and flares over the hip, plus the cap sleeves are so cute! The mock neck and keyhole cutout are everything for this spring & summer. You may be skeptical of this color, but this peachy-blush is right on trend. Did I mention this dress has pockets?
Styling tip: The “Y” style necklace is popular right now. A simple, crystal stone and drop chain worn under the mock neck adds interest without dominating the dress. Keep the shoes simple, opt for nude sandals or nude heels depending on the event.
What I love about this look: If you’re looking for something a little more vibrant, this dress has a rich floral pattern and contrasting hues. The trapeze silhouette is flattering for a variety of shapes and the criss-cross detail is the perfect touch. This dress also has pockets, win!
Styling tip: With the front detail and bold print of this dress, try simple jewelry. I opted for a white druzy pendant, but I definitely think the short length is key. Again, I love this kind of dress with nude shoes of any kind, sandals or heels. They make your legs look longer, I would invest in a quality pair if you don’t already have one!
What I love about this look: If you consider yourself more of a bohemian girl, this dress is so pretty. It features a trendy border print and surplice wrap front. The split shoulders and cinched, elastic waist add details that are incredibly flattering.
Styling tip: As with the dress above, there’s plenty of print here that you would only need a delicate necklace. I chose a worn gold, curved bar pendant. A few bracelets wouldn’t hurt this dress either! For shoes, try a gladiator sandal to complete the bohemian vibe.
What I love about this look: This is the perfect shade of powder blue. Also, absolutely crazy over the high neckline and criss-cross front! The trapeze style has flair but it’s not so wide that it’s overwhelming.
Styling tip: With the neckline details, I think you could opt for a pair of dangle earring. I chose a teardrop-shaped pair with delicate beading but I think options are limitless with a solid dress such as this one. Also, shoes could really be anything! For a bridal shower or similar type of event, I think wedges would look really cute.
What I love about this look: Are you a floral lover but maybe not one for bright, vibrant prints? The neutral palette and soft, floral print of this dress gives it a very dreamy and romantic vibe. Plus, definitely loving anything that’s off the shoulder right now.
Styling tip: Off the shoulder styles really lend themselves to chokers, since they highlight your neck and décolletage. I chose one with a dark, vegan leather cord because I think it highlights the darker hues of the dress. I also paired it with a long, statement necklace. With a dress that has a straight silhouette, such as this one, I love the way a long necklace slims the frame by drawing the eye to your center.
Which look is your favorite? I’m loving all of the spring dresses right now, it was hard to choose my top 5!
Maybe you’ve noticed (or have not noticed), that the blog has been a bit empty of new content. Here’s why:
As we’re passing the 2.5yr mark on opening the doors of Compass Rose, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on the last year. You, our customers, are keep me busy! And I sincerely could not be more grateful, THANK YOU!
For the last several months, I’ve been working my hardest to bring the latest style and newest trends to Compass Rose, as well as dabble in quite a few extraneous projects (hence the blog absence). As an independent soul, I convinced myself I could do it all and as you can see a few of my projects have fallen through the cracks.
Nevertheless, I’ve added an extra set of hands or two to my team (as well as some extra paws) and I’m feeling prepared to revisit unfinished business, such as this blog. So stay tuned–new content is on the way!
Anyone else still struggling to snap back into reality and go back to work after the holiday weekend? Compass Rose has the perfect medicine for the “case of the workdays”– wine, girlfriends, and clothes (on sale!)

The sun is shining, the temps are rising, and I don’t know about you but I am beyond ready to soak up a little vitamin D outside. Yet if you’re anything like me, you’re spending more time staring at your closet wondering what to wear instead of soaking up the rays. But come on, it’s summer! Outfits shouldn’t take years to put together. In a perfect world, they would be easy, breezy, lightweight, and stylish. Easier said than done (especially if you’re guilty of hitting the snooze button one too many times in the morning, oops). So let’s make a pact to stop standing in our closets and spend more time having fun and doing the things we love!
Seriously cannot stop singing the praises of this piece. Rompers are the perfect one and done outfit. Put it on and you can be out the door 60 seconds later. Pull your hair back in a quick ponytail, grab a long necklace, slide on a pair of sandals, and GO! Headed out to dinner for the evening? Swap the sandals for a pair of leg-lengthening nude wedges. Could it get any simpler? Nope.

THE JEAN SHORTS
The summer staple, every girl needs a great pair of jean shorts in their wardrobe. They look cute with tees, tanks, crop tops…you name it. That’s why they’re so awesome. A reminder–don’t forget about your basics. It’s easy to get wrapped up in that perfectly printed top or the latest trendy style, which of course have their place in our hearts. However, basics will always be there for you and they can be worn with any accessory! How’s that for versatile?

Similar to the romper situation, grabbing a sundress from your closet requires minimal further decision making. Perfect for anyone who is indecisive. Currently loving this one for its ability to flatter many different body types. Bonus points awarded to the gorgeous summery print, which means you can get away with less accessories (and less decisions). Wear it with a pair of gold statement earrings, your favorite sandals, and you’re in business.
Try a pair of these new statement earrings with any of the above outfits to add a little flair as you’re running out the door.
Now get out there and enjoy the amazing weather!
